CM Hurt Piercing has documented over 4,000 cases of utilizing our sterile, single-use, cartridge method on children’s earlobes (and a few nervous adults as well). We are highly trained professional piercers in a very high-volume studio. We have done a lot of piercings for over 30 years. We will only pierce earlobe tissue, never cartilage or any other body part with our completely sterile, single-use, hypo-allergenic cartridge system. We have evidence that it is the safest, quickest, cleanest, most accurate method that reduces emotional trauma to the child, the parent, and the piercer. Let’s face it, no one wants to hurt a child.
Following our Aftercare Instructions and utilizing the products provided in it, we have found a less than 2% infection rate. In almost every case where a bacterial infection was suspected, the parent admitted that someone had touched, moved or removed the initial studs against our advice.
We want the best of for you and we want the best for your child. Do we use a traditional ear piercing gun that can’t be sterilized? No, of course not. We do use a sterile cartridge system that we have utilized for over 3,000 young children, making them and their mamas and papas happy.
"SHOULD YOU PIERCE CHILDREN THAT CAN'T CONSENT?"
There is a newer school of internet thought that a parent should wait until such a time as a child can ask for the piercing. Some piercers think they can tell you when the right time is for your child. At CM Hurt, we don’t feel it is our place to parent your child. We feel it is the parent’s choice and entirely their decision, within the limits of the law. Some piercers won’t pierce infants, children and minors. That’s okay. If they aren’t comfortable, they have the right to not participate without passing judgement. We believe it’s a choice. If you want to wait until your child asks, perfect, your choice. If you choose to have their earlobes pierced before they speak, well that’s okay, too. It is still your choice as a parent. We have noticed that when someone is upset that their parents had their ears pierced when they were young, they are more likely to be upset that they were done unevenly. That’s one of the reasons that we feel we are serving the community; we are professional piercers and can do a great job!
“REUSABLE PIERCING GUNS CANNOT BE STERILIZED.”
Absolutely correct. No items, tools, or equipment should be reused without proper disinfection and autoclave sterilization. Reusable tools are treated in this manner at reputable studios. The tools that we use for piercing earlobes are either with a traditional piercing needle or with a single-use, pre-sterilized plastic cartridge that is immediately placed into the trash after use. If piercing with a needle, the piercer will pick up the sterilized jewelry with their gloved hand, creating a small potential for cross contamination, whereas the sterile, disposable cartridge never has the piercer touch the jewelry. It is potentially a more sterile technique.
“SPRING-LOADED PIERCING GUNS CAN CAUSE SIGNIFICANT TISSUE DAMAGE.”
With a traditional, reusable piercing gun that is spring-loaded, this is a possibility. We never use them. Our pre-sterilized, disposable cartridge uses the strength of the experienced professional piercer’s hand to apply just the right amount of pressure to safely pierce the tissue. Nothing touches the tissue but the earring. There is no excessive pressure over a larger surface causing “blunt force trauma”, there is a dainty little hole that takes exactly one-tenth of a second to install.
“ARE THE CLUTCH BACK STUDS INAPPROPRIATE FOR HEALING PIERCINGS."
The length of the clutch back (butterfly back) studs utilized in our sterile, one use cartridge system is the exact same length that we use for initial earlobe piercings by needle. At no time is tissue compressed, in the rare event that your child has extra thick earlobes, we do carry an extra long option. There is plenty of room for fresh water and sterile saline to appropriately flush away normally occurring cellular discharge. Millions and millions of people have worn clutch back style in their earlobes, for many years, without issues.
“THE METAL OF CLUTCH BACK STUDS WILL CAUSE PROBLEMS.”
We at CM Hurt Piercing, never use plated jewelry nor do we use jewelry from a non-verifiable and trusted manufacturer. We offer hypo-allergenic stainless steel, titanium and solid 14kt gold. The incidence of irritation from the initial jewelry is below 1% in our documented cases. Simply stated, our jewelry has not been found to cause irritation, allergic reaction or any other issues. In the limited case where we thought that the jewelry might be a cause of irritation, we merely switch the jewelry out to a different metal, at no cost to our client.
"DOESN'T THE NEEDLE TAKE OUT A ROUND LITTLE PIECE OF TISSUE AND A STUD JUST MAKES A HOLE.”
Actually a beveled professional piercing needle cuts a U-shape incision in the tissue. I spent the first few years of my career looking for the tissue in the needle, because that was what we were told. The stud does make a nice round hole. There is a greater likely hood of bleeding due to the shape of the wound created by the needle whereas the piercing stud having made the hole and filled it at the same time, well, I’ve never seen one bleed.
